Stepping Forward with Cutting-Edge Technology
Empowering Our Teams
Our teams are empowered with the technology needed to stay ahead. We equip our field agents and estate associates with handheld devices, provide frontline employees with CRM dashboards, and give management access to advanced business intelligence and ERP systems.
Connecting Through the Cloud
To enhance our operations, we implemented a group-wide cloud-based platform. This technology centralises key data, allowing us to streamline communications and make more coordinated decisions across the Sunshine network.
Drones in Agriculture
Our Agri Business is partnering with two innovative startups to leverage drone technology. By using drones to gather crucial field data, we can quickly identify and act on fields left fallow.
Customer Insights at Healthguard
At Healthguard, we use technology to analyze customer behaviour, from time spent at the counter to unplanned purchases, allowing us to continuously refine and enhance the customer experience.
Real-Time Field Tracking
Watawala Plantations implemented iHarvest, a digital transformation platform. This system records everything from the moment a crop is harvested to real-time field availability. It also monitors employee attendance through photo identification
Smart Dairy Systems
Watawala Dairy Farm features a fully computerised, state-of-the-art DAIRYMASTER milking parlor system imported from Ireland. This advanced system can milk 40 cows simultaneously and monitor each animal’s yield and milk quality. With built-in technology, it automatically separates milk containing antibiotics, mastitis, or colostrum. Additionally, sensors clipped to each cow’s ear track temperature, activity, and feeding behaviour, ensuring their welfare is carefully monitored.
Tech-DrivenBreakthroughs
Project ‘kalana mithuru’
Watawala Plantations launched a Village Integration Project that bridges the gap between villages and estates, fostering better synergy and collaboration within local communities.
Project ‘Infinity’
Healthguard launched ‘Infinity’, a comprehensive distribution division to assist local pharmaceutical importers and manufacturers in expanding their reach across retail pharmacy outlets in Sri Lanka. It is the first Distribution-as-a-Service (DaaS) model implemented by a Sri Lankan healthcare company.

Shaping the Nation Through the Light of Innovation
Watawala Dairy Limited (WDL), a subsidiary of Watawala Plantations, operates a state-of-the-art dairy farm. The farm manages a herd of 1,600 dairy cattle, producing 18,000 litres of fresh milk daily—or 6.5 million litres annually—contributing 3.5% of Sri Lanka’s total annual milk production.
Using the Total Mixed Ration (TMR) method, maize is the main fodder, requiring 40 tonnes per day. To manage this demand, we’ve invested in a network of over 40 maize suppliers from regions across Sri Lanka, providing support to the local farming community since 2017.
